I'm not sure how to explain. For the gathered part I cut out a large rectangle. I got the ruching (?) by bringing the top and bottom parts of the fabric together. I sewed it so that it would hold in the wash and such, and then added the knot later. The knot really isn't needed but makes it look alot nicer. I then sewed that part to the straight peice.

I hope that made sense

That is gorgeous.  And the color is beautiful.  It kind of reminds me of a mermaid, or an Esther Williams swimsuit type deal.  Great work!
