It's amazing how some Lit classes can completely kill your appreciation for certain parts of literature (know there's a classic novel or two that I'll, unfortunately, never be able to truly appreciate again).

you wouldn't believe what a whole degree in lit will do. man!

Starblossom, come join us! This will only be my second swap.I'm not a craft goddess myself, but I couldn't resist this swap. It's going to be fun.

School ruining literature-oh,yeah. I had a Shakespeare class in high school. We had to sit quietly at our desks and read our books along with an old scratchy recording of the play. Ruined shakespeare for me for years! My next teacher had us do "Arms and the Man".She assigned us parts to read out loud, encouraged us to ham it up and have fun.I still like Shaw.

I love anthologies.I find so many poems I never would have heard of otherwise.Chinese poets, nature poetry,e e cummings,Langston Hughes,Poe,Millay,Ogden Nash,Mary Oliver. That's how I found an ancient chinese poet name Tu Fu(or Du Fu).he's got one about working in an office during an august heat wave that could have been written today.Archy and Mehitabel by Don Marquis.
And yeah,I like Shakespeare now. Smiley

yes, starblossom, come join us. it will be fun. i'm really new to swapping too.

and bookstorebabe, i totally agree with you about the anthologies. that's why billy collins' poetry 180 is good to check out - it is contemporary work.

and i never know where to start with contemporary work.

This is the perfect swap for my roommate, as she writes poetry daily in her blog, but she procrastinated joining (she just uses my account to browse) and won't be a member long enough to join.  Maybe I could join for her?

Unfortunately, that's against the rules that Leah and the swap mods set up. This seems to be a popular swap (with a number of people who, for some reason or another, can't participate this go round) so I'm thinking a second round isn't out of the question.  Get your roommate to get her own account going right now so she can follow the thread and gallery and catch announcements for a second round.
