My Mum brought back this amazing fabric from a trip to Thailand years ago and I've been hoarding it even since dreaming about what to turn it into. I made a small part of it into a tote bag, but it really wanted to be made into something to wear. At first I thought I'd make a skirt as I'm new to machine sewing, but stupidity and blind ignorance ganged up on me and made me try a dress. It's based on one of my favourite 'A' line dresses. After a few tweaks, I think it turned out okay...considering it's the first time I've ever made a dress and tried putting darts in! I was going to make it without the darts, but my ample bust decided it wanted some! Cheesy

Anyway, see what you think, and if you have any recommendations or advice I'd be glad to hear it!

The dress, hot off the machine...and hot onto me! Cheesy

(I hate photo's of me, especially ones taken by timer! Cheesy)

Hanging up...

Close up of my first ever darts!

Thank you! It was about time the fabric saw the light of day! The colour reminds me of Cadbury's chocolate...which is always good! Cheesy

I love it and it is great for your first attempt!

Might I make one teensy suggestion ... Perhaps some beaded trim for the bottom? I don't love this as far as "matching" your dress, but maybe something similar:

That's a good idea. I think something along those lines, but maybe a little subtler for my tastes, would balance out the gold at the bottom. Thanks, I shall have to start looking for something!
