Matching twirling dresses for my monkey and her very good friend.  Because I'm insane.  No really, doing some 80 feet of gathering made me want to jump out the window (workshop is in basement, don't worry)

When we see our friend this week I should be able to get some double twirl action shots (can't wait!  Cheesy)

But, for now...

The idea was to try to match the colours in the bodice and sort of make it go darker with every layer.  I didn't get the effect I wanted, but I've got the colours right at least.

(my little yogi.  Seriously, you should see her warrior pose.  No wait, lion is even better  Grin)

I welcome questions and comments.

adorable! I think I'm jealous of your mad patchwork and gathering skills. I definitely don't have the patience to do it on that scale.

i really like the colors in this one. i'm crazy for green... and now i'm scared, when we move in 2 weeks, i'll be working in the attic, and it has 2 windows. at least soon i'd have snowbanks to land in i guess...

I can't tell you how many times I've looked at your twirly dresses on Craftster!  I have yet to see one I don't absolutely love.  I have the fabric all washed and ironed to make one myself, but I'm SO afraid mine won't be nearly as breathtaking as yours.  I never get tired of seeing them.  Thanks for sharing!

So adorable - I can't believe the number of twirly dresses you have done - I was finished after my first - even though I already have the fabric cut out for the second - lol!  I really love this dress though! Smiley

Cute dresses!

I love your tutorial! I used it to make a patchwork skirt for my 4 year old DD and she loves it. The only bad thing is that I don't have a serger, so I ended up lining it with muslin to hide all the raw edges. She loves it.

thanks folks  Smiley

stressedoutmamax3: good idea with the lining, I would of just left it  Cheesy  Actually, you can zig zag the edges and that works fairly well, or cut out your squares with pinking shears (works... okay).  Lining is probably your best bet, though, and I bet it looks quite professional that way.

I know everyone has already said it, but your patchwork dresses are adorable! I accidently made one of these but it was a skirt, not a dress.

I know, I know... how the heck does one "accidently" make this? I was trying to make a patchwork tiered skirt to attach to a jean skirt that was too short for my oldest daughter. It ended up a wee bit too twirly for that project so I gave it to my middlest girl as a twirly skirt instead.

My colors aren't nearly as nice though, they look more like a rainbow regurgitated on it than any type of planned design.
