Okay, I went to my LYS and a clerk helped me find my yarn and needles for the teapot cozy.  She said she thought a person new to knitting would be able to tackle it.  My best friend and I and our families are going to spend two days in Yosemite.  I figure we'll have some time to at least start the cozy.  *keeps fingers crossed*

My friend and I sat in the solarium of the Ahwahnee Hotel in beautiful Yosemite, trying to figure out this knitting business.  We must have tried at least six times to knit the first eight rows of the tea cozy!  Aiieee!  Man, you have to have patience and knitting is not as forgiving as sewing.  We feel so lame!  At least I found a use for my post-partum tummy-- it makes a great needle rest!  (Can you still call it "post-partum flab," if your baby is seven?)

I made another 8ball tea cozy (for my mom, to the dimensions of her tea pot) and on the back, I embroidered a triangle with "TEA" inside - a la the 'reply hazy ask again' stuff in the bottom of a real magic 8 ball.
she liked it.

Sadly, I didn't get a picture of the TEA triangle - I gave it to my mom for christmas and she lives far, far away.  I'll email her and ask if she'll take a pic, though Smiley

Ok, here it is, this one I did the 8 in duplicate stitch (I knitted in the first one, and I think I like how the knitted in one turned out better, thought this one is more circular, because I stranded too tightly on the first) and embroidered the "TEA" and triangle as well.  In an airport.  Waiting for the first of two hideously delayed planes.  But hey, when you're working on a Christmas present on the way to your Christmas, delays can be helpful Wink

You can kind of see how I changed the decreases in the pic of the back.

OOH- thanks so very much for getting those pics posted!  It is so much cuter than I even imagined.  I totally screwed up on the front of my cozy and now have been reinspired by you!  Can't wait to finish!

Hmm, I used worsted weight wool.  The black was Patons Classic Wool Merino, and the white was something I had laying around.  Maybe Briggs & Little Regal?  Cascade 220 would work just as well, or any other worsted weight wool.  I would tend to say to stick to wool, though, it will absorb any drips nicely, and won't be affected by the heat (like a synthetic might).
