well i think this is what u call a shift dress. .. basic shortish dress shape with darts to make it fit.
My mum had brought a dress at the jumble sale which nearly fitted me right, was too short, and the most TErRRIBle fabric ever.. i really should have taken a pic.. its like got massive bright coloured paintings of fruit and flowers all over it, lol. well I wouldnt wear that anyway.
so i kinda coppied the shapes ( 1 front peice, 2 back peices) onto a bit of fabric i found in the attic.. which was only JUST big enough. yeah so my dress isnt much longer, and has the print going sideways, tho that dosnt really show.
and i think i need a few more darts as rather loose still, tho i kinda like that..
enough rambling, here it is:

oh the lovely wonky mirror photos..never realised it was so difficult!

Nice!  Having the pattern sideways isn't even distracting. Grin

You look lovely in it!  I wouldn't resize it- seems to drape nice right over your figure and taking it in more could make it start to pull or gap in places (and of course it's more comfortable not so tight).  Great job!

That dress looks great! I'm not so sure I like the white tights with it, but the dress itself is awesome!

I just have to say I love the white tights! Kiss

They remind me of my favorite outfit around 1990.

All you need is a white boat neck sweater, hung over one shoulder and that would be exactly right!

Anyone else started feeling old since the 80s styles have returned and are now 'retro'?! Wink

wonderfully done

thanks guys, im pretty pleased with this , perhaps making another when i find some nice fabric, perhaps a little longer..
ah hah the white tights.. lol i love them, tho not everyones taste, tho i kinda like it being a bit odd. black wud be smarter obvisly.
ive sewn some black buttons up the back, (its safety pinned in this pic), cos couldnt find a zip handy. and havnt bothed with more fittingness, think ill just wear it as is.

too cute! Lots of possibilities with that style dress & different fabrics. Can go formal or funky. Forgot how much I dig shift dresses. Good job - very nicely done.
