Knitting payback is so SWEET!

Oh I am so excited and happy. My niece mentioned last Christmas that she wanted to learn how to knit. This was the first indication that any craftiness existed in my family (I am the exception) so I was a bit sceptical (she also wanted to start a band in 5th grade...she's 21 now...no band LOL). But when she showed up at my house last weekend, took one look at my rather top heavy pile of WIPs...practically demanded that I teach her...as though I were holding out on a really great secret LOL! So we sat down...and she was a sponge!!! Wanted to know everything and how it worked and what did you do if... and how do you  and what does it and WOW! I was so impressed! I was nearly in tears! So like any good junkie...I began to outfit her with a knitting kit. Found a darling felted wristlet I had received in a swap (had been using it myself, but her need was greater!!!) and filled it with scissors and tape measure and a gauge ...well thingey...the metal ruler thing with needle size holes and a gauge "window". Then with my husband watching on with huge saucer like eyes, I gave her a pair of my beloved bamboo needles. He nearly fainted. I was that proud and happy. She picked it up very quickly and is already addicted (much to her boyfriends irritation and the rest of the family's slight amusement). She came back the next day with a bookmark sized practice swatch that was so marvelous, I had her bind it off, weave in the ends (add a big blue plastic tapestry needle to the kit, duh) and I'm using it as a bookmark!! I am so proud,...did I mention that? I sighed happily and sent her back to school.

Fast forward 3 days, she emailed me pictures of her first WIP....a baby blanket. OMG I AM SO FREAKING PROUD...I'm sure I mentioned that....

So today, I went to the mailbox, still happily buzzed from knit-teaching-itis (oh and winning a really nice toy on e-bay). Lo and behold I found a box... hmmm and it's from the niece?!?!?!



And she even replaced the needles I gave her...oh man....is it to late to adopt her...I'm sure my brother wouldn't mind surely...Is she the greatest or WHAT??

I wish I had a cool aunt like you who could teach me how to knit! I tried to learn once, armed with a "easy beginners guide" from the library and a mom who "used to know how to crochet". Needless to say, it was disastrous.

Awww thanks guys...knew you all would understand....I just can't put this yarn down...it has big things to knit up to LOL. Anything I make will have been made with "Lexi's" yarn...so in itself will be special. Because...as I'm thinking about it....she is the only person to buy me yarn....ever. wow. She is the bestest!

what a great story... have been trying to get my 2 girls to knit and they refuse!!!!  i love to teach people how to knit.
