I'm newly signed up (I was a lurker).

I need HELP!!!

What can I make that's GIRLY, but NOT a dress?  Huh I need something fairly simple too. I am not the world's best seamstress.  Cheesy My little girl is 2 1/2 and I made vegbee's patchwork circle dress (she won't wear it!) and she SCREAMS every time I attempt to put a dress on her. She hides the dresses in her closet, under her bed and tries to throw them away.  Sad

Any tute's or suggestions?

try taking her with you to help you pick out a pattern for a dress if you want to get her into one, if SHE picks the dress and material she just might wear it, if not try hats they are fairly easy and quick to make, or halter tops. you can girly up hats and halter tops easily.

What about capris?  You could really up the girly factor with some sweet trims.

Or have you thought about appliqueing (sp?) some tshirts to make them more girly?

Or if she is into a certain character right now, buy that character in a patch or as the fabric print to appeal to her.  My 2 year old is so into Dora right now that I can't get her new Dora jammies off without tears (hers, then mine... I so hate mornings.).  I personally hate a lot of the licensed character prints, so I would probably go the patch route, they seem less obnoxious that way.

I had her pick out material yet again today. We'll see if it works. I am trying to make her a halter top. {praying} I hope I don't screw it up!

Welcome to Craftster, RockstarMom!  I think a halter top will be really cute!  What about a smocked/shirred top (the kind done with elastic thread)?  Since it's stretchy, I think it would be easier to get it to fit.  When I have a bit more time later I'll try and find the tutorial for you.    I hope you'll post pictures when you're done.

a lot of the dress tutorials can be shortened to be done as tops.

also, i'm thinking of doing a little girl version from this tutorial. with the right shirt and/or embellishments, this top could be very girly:

She actually wore it for an hour! LOL! I just made a pattern out of a halter top she already had. Now my sewing machine is acting up and I couldn't finish top #2. Sad

What about a cute T-shirt and leggings?  I plan to make this for my 3.5 year old.  I saw some cute ones at Target and I am going to try to recreate them.
