yet another gryffindor scarf

I felt yucky all last week so I spent a couple days doing nothing but watching Buffy and Veronica Mars* and doing a bit of mindless knitting.
Voila, Gryffindor scarf! 



It's that mock cable rib pattern.  I like that one because it's mindless but not super boring.  And it looks cool.  Here's a close up on the stitches:

I originally found it in one of the Stitch 'n' Bitch books, I think.
I just did a google search and everyone's directions are different!
Here's what I did:

WS rows are k1p2
RS rows you knit into the second stitch first, don't slip that off the needle (the way you normally would after knitting), knit the first stitch, then slip them both off and purl the next stitch.

I've been looking for an easy and fast to knit hp scarf, and I think this is it... How long did it take you? How many sts did u cast on?
I really love the way it looks...

That's a really cool pattern (the mock cable is something I've been meaning to try) and it's great to see a thinner Harry Potter scarf. 
*I, too, love watching Veronica Mars.  I've got the first season on DVD, so every once in a while I just watch all of them within a week or so.

I cast on 24 with 6s.

Stripe pattern:
co maroon
do a couple rows non-cable k2p1(rs) rib
*2 rows goldish
2 rows maroon
2 rows gold
10 rows maroon
rep from *until you have a scarf.  Or, like me, ran out of maroon yarn.

Mock cable rib is good too if you like a skinny scarf but need a warm one.  It's very thick!  You also go through yarn pretty fast with it.

The scarf is really cool. It looks just like the Order Of The Phoenix ones, and the stitch makes the stripes look neat.

How many fandoms *can* I hit in one post!?
I'm so tempted to make more mock cable rib stripey scarves.  I love how it looks kind of like houndstooth but without the pesky fair isle.

lol - there are some more, but I think the big one you missed is "Firefly"

Yeah, it's a really nice stitch. It does sort of look like houndstooth. It'd probably make an interesting hat, in one of those color changing yarns.
