My brother in law is having twins... the perfect chance to knit the pinwheel blanket!  I didn't know how long it would take.  Consider this: when you knit a rectangular baby blanket, it's usually 3 feet by 2 feet.  So the longest side is 3 feet.  Well, there is no longest side in a circular blanket, the diameter all the way around is three feet.  Before the "ruffle," there were 548 stitches.  I added the ruffle, 1096 stitches.  The pink picot edging, you CO 5 sts for every 3 sts, so ... a lot more sts.  The pink picot alone took one skein of pink... and at least 5 hours.  If anyone ever hears me musing about making another pinwheel blanket, please slap me upside the head.  Hard.  (Obviously, the next blanket for baby #2 will be a rectangular one).

I'm not too jazzed about the color combo... I think I will knit a stegosaurus in green with pink spikes to tie it together... I feel like the blanket looks like a skinned dragon.  Or I'm just delirious.   Tongue

Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in lime and ...berry?  One skein berry, 4 and a little bit of a 5th of lime.

I used size 7 needles in the beginning, moved up to 8, and then eventually 9.  I don't feel like it made it go any faster but maybe it did?

I REFUSED to pick up and knit when I knew how many stitches were around.  I went to Knitting Over the Edge and looked at their ruffle patterns, found one that started from the inside and ended with a bind off, and used it.  I actually just k1, m1 around, and then the picot edge (pink part) is one row of knitting and then: BO 2, *switch st on right needle to left needle, CO 3 using cable cast on, BO 5*, repeat.

It might've been time consuming, but it turned out great!

It looks amazing. Plus I bow down to your patience and the fact that you actually finished it. The maximum number of stitches I ever worked with was around 200. And even that was too much for me  Cheesy

I really like how it came out!  Where did you find the pattern and what size needles did you use?

I feel your pain.  I knit a painful baby blanket and it turned me off to knitting for like 5 years!

did you have to go around the entire blanket and pick up the stitches for the edge, or did you just continue out? if i had to pick up that many stitches i would gouge out my eyes with my needles!

It's gorgeous! If I had been knitting it, it would have been done just in time for their 21st birthday. 1096 stitches? Crazy.
