Added story:  my town (Hastings, NE) just won Yahoo!'s Greenest City in America contest, which is a total crock to anyone who actually tries to live a green lifestyle--we don't even recycle glass here!  I took one of my t-shirt bags to a local grocery store, here in yahoo!'s greenest city and my checker eyed me very suspiciously and then suggested she put my purchase in a plastic bag and THEN put the PLASTIC bag INSIDE the reusable bag.  Hilarious

That is hilarious!  I wonder how your city won?  Maybe they picked you out of a hat! 

And I really like your bag!  I'm pleasantly surprised it can hold so much weight.

Thanks for all the nice comments.  I was going for a simple design that I could make a bunch of quickly.  They do, indeed, hold quite a bit.  In the future I might top stitch the bottom seam one more time for good measure.

As for the yahoo! contest--it was basically vote-based.  Which ever city had the most people log on and answer questions and pledge to do some simple things like switch to compact fluorescents won.  They gave the city $250,000 for green projects--hopefully that will help turn the tide and make us worthy of our greenest city title.  And maybe we'll learn that double bagging plastic inside a reusable bag defeats the purpose.

The orange Mr T bag reminds me of Ariel's treasure bag from The Little Mermaid.  Another great thing to do with old tshirts!
