I have decided on the color for my cabinets and countertops, and I've narrowed down the backsplash but I can NOT find a wall color that I like with all my other choices.

The cabinets don't quite all match, so I'm going to paint the Behr Black Suede, and lightly distress them to show a bit of the oak behind the paint. I'm getting wooden countertops from Ikea, and our floor is wood as well, and I loooooove the unstained natural wood against the satin black paint. The ceiling with be faux pressed tin, this cardboard-y ceiling tile with the tin ceiling pattern that I'm going to paint to look like actual tin with gray and silver paint. The backsplash will most likely be slate-look ceramic, or possibly spanish tiles. I can't decide between the two yet, but I just can not figure out what wall color I want to do. I don't want to do yellow because the room off the kitchen and the stairway off the kitchen are both yellow and I won't want yellow overload. I've been playing with Behrs colorsmart thingy and nothing looks quite right to me.

I don't want to go too dark, because my kitchen is at the back of the house and tends to be a bit dark, and I already planned a darkish ceiling and black cabinets, so I need a light color, but I looooooathe white walls. What other color should I do? WOuld orange work? Or would it look too halloweeny? I also mulled a nice cheerful apple green, or maybe a pale grey-ish lilac (although it can't be too purpley of a purple or my husband will complain) I just dunno what color to try in this room. Given my loathing of white walls, do you think I could deal with a beige or a cream color? Or would I just be constantly craving more color?

I'd put up a picture but the room is gutted right now, so it's just down to the studs, which doesn't help much.  Cheesy

Before you even mentioned what colors you were considering I had thought an apple green color would look nice.
I, too, loathe white walls!  I can hardly wait to quit renting so I can paint...you're kitchen sounds absolutely beautiful!

I think you should do an artichoke color scheme... don't think I'm crazy  Wink

A pale green with some purple accents would look awesome with the black.

Try taking some of the lighter green colors and the purple from this picture:

Oooooh, I totally don't think you are crazy - purple and green are my favorite colors Smiley I think I might just have to do some samples and see what I like the most. I also think that once I settle on the backsplash it'll help influence things too. I'm really leaning towards the spanish tiles, today anyways.

Would taupe be too mundane? You've already got grey and black, and brown. I'm thinking a lighter brown  might be the way to go. Or maybe a light turquoise?
