I see patterns for Bias Tape. Do I really need to buy bias tape or can I make it. Is there anything special about bias tape? Thanks for the help. Sorry if this seem stupid. I am sure it is a simple anwser but I want to be sure, because I am thinking of making my own bias tape.

Yes, you can make your own bias tape.  Just cut fabric on the bias,(45 degrees) what ever the width is you want your finished tape to be. Cut the tape 4x that size.  Press the tape in half (the long way) then press the raw ends in to the fold, this is double fold bias.  Bias goes around curves without puckering.

Yes, you can make your own... there are tools that make it much easier also... check the quilting section of your local fabric store. You cut the fabric on the bias, and run it thru this tool, while ironing and viola... color/fabric coordinated bias tape...

I use 2" for my faux chenille blanket binding and I just used 1" for an apron, binding and strings.

It's great to make for coordinating things, but I'm lazy and only make it when I have to.

The real question is: do you have more time? or money?

Lots of time, little money= make it. Lots of money, little time= buy it.
