Here's the recommended yarn's colors: http://www.simplyshetland.net/Jamieson-2PlySpindrift.html (so you don't make the mistake I did in looking for a greenish color when Peat is dark reddish! Roll Eyes).

The book is Simply Shetland 4 at Tomales Bay from Jamieson's http://www.simplyshetland.net/KnittingBooks.html (also where to buy for Americans & Canadians).

Pic of the sample here: http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2007/03/amusebouche.html (better than the one that ended up in the book, IMO).

www.jamiesonsshetland.co.uk for those looking for recommended yarn suppliers outside North America.

The sample was made from 11 colors.  You might want to read http://www.knitty.com/issuewinter06/FEATcolortheory.html if you plan to substitute colors. Smiley

There are more places online selling the books and kits internationally now. Smiley  Keep an eye out for discount codes in magazines, also.

Im in!
I wont be starting it until mid-september though, Im travelling for three weeks first and I also have to find someone wholl ship a kit to Norway without it costing me a small fortune.
Or Ill substitute the yarn for norwegian pt2, but I get the feeling thats risky business...

Whew! I think I found one of the last skeins of Peat in the store!  The sales person who helped me look yesterday was there again today.  She had to take it from a kit for some other pattern.

Now my only sub is Navy for Admiral Navy (Navy's a little darker, pretty close to black).

Good luck with the yarn search!

Moma, I considered substituting Jamiesons spindrift with PT2 for Eunny Jangs Venezia, but realized it would be to thick. Maybe 2-ply merino from Bnsull or Nsebarn could work, but then you dont have the colour optoions. I have yet to start my Venezia though, and if I do I thing Ill use the original yarn. The designs are complicated enough as they are, and way too pretty to mess up!

I haven't seen the pattern, so I can't give great advice, but here're some options for sizing down:

1. Knit at a slightly tighter gauge?
2. Figure out how large one of the medallion repeats is, and just subtract a whole repeat in the body?
3. Ask Eunny.

I dunno, that's all I can think of.

I've e-mailed Eunny.  Too soon for a response  and got a great, very helpful response.  I've asked if I can copy what she wrote here.

The repeats don't matter because she gives a more fitted set of directions that sometimes uses partial-repeats.

The way her chart works is there's an outline guiding each size--but where & how much to reduce?!

The recommended needle sizes are already US 2, 1, and 0--not much leeway there.
