I'd like to make something for my grandmother for her birthday (October 1st) but I can't think of anything! She doesn't knit and only sort of crochets, but she's an excellent seamstress.

I know what not to make:

afghan - she has a ton of blankets already
socks or slippers - very particular about her slippers
scarf - my great grandmother crocheted her a beautiful one
hat - her scarf has a hood

I suppose I could attempt a sweater...unless someone can come up with something super creative for me!  Grin

Just a suggestion--I made my grandma a felted basket with a handle and a felted rose on the side. (The basket pattern was from the book Treasury of Magical Knitting.) She really liked it--I gave it to her filled with small size lotions and soaps, and my mom was so jealous of the whole thing that I had to make one for her too.

I'll be curious to see what other responses you get--it's always really hard to think of what to give to my grandma. I'd love to know what you decide.

How about mittens? Or since she's a seamstress, you could felt her a pincushion or a needle book.

These are all great ideas, now I have to pick which one I want to do! I love the basket idea, I bet she could use that. Same with the pincushion. No pets though, but I could make her a little pillow for herself.

Thanks for your help everyone!
