Basic concept is you make a swap for someone's favourite historical figures. Once everyone has their partners, you research the figures and then you can start crafting. It would be great if partners could suggest certain books and resources to look at. To spice it up a little we could also write an essay on whether or not a figure would be a craftser or not! For those who aren't big on writing they could just do a couple of sentences. Crafting makes learning fun Grin

I would love this swap! I am obsessed with the likes of Anne Bonney, Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane Grey. I would be happy to organize if the interest picks up  Smiley

I would be all up on some sweet Blackbeard swag! Or Cleopatra, or someone ... hmm ...

And Anne Bonney! That would be awesome!

This is an intriguing idea. W hat would be some examples of what we would craft?

Let's see...take Anne Bonney for example, you could make some cool female orientated pirate gear. One of my favourite figureheads is Nikola Tesla. There are tonnes of cool things you could do with that. His inventions (numerous and many, Id love to see someone take on his Death Ray), his OCD habits (he was big on the number three and was afraid of pearl earrings). The more you research the more ideas you get! Also I know we could see some really cool t-shirts by stencilling some of our figure heads and adding a quote or something funny (Eg. Nikola Tesla: Counting his steak one cubit at a time). There are a lot of little in-jokes and little known facts you could tie in. You could even try replicating some of the things they would have owned or the clothes they wore. Id love to see some models and soft toys of our historical figures too. You could even tie in the What if such-and-such was a craftser? theme in as well as in the essay.

I love the idea of beig able to research and explore other peoples historical figures. Internet research is really easy so you can learn about it as you go along! Like you said, crafting makes learning fun!  Grin

Yup, I think the best swaps are the ones where you're not only researching what someone would like but learning about what they have chosen. I just did a music swap and it was great because I had to find a way to try and incorporate lyrics and song ideas into swap pieces (plus I discovered some really awesome new tunes!) It's very satisfying finding a way to put the two elements together.

I'm so in!!!  I'm a little obsessed with anne boleyn too (ok, a lot obsessed.  And with lady jane. I have portraits of both of them hanging in my dining/sewing room.) so this swap sounds right up my alley!

looks like we'd have 6-8 at least . . . . is there a minimum number in order to do an "official" swap?

.. count me in if this gets going...

I don't think so ... 6-8 sounds like a fine number.

i hope this goes! a small number would be nice, i think.  i'm in a swap now that has something like 70 people, and it's a little ridiculous...
