Old fleece, old wheel, new yarn! Well, it's starting to look like yarn anyway.

I've taken Gypsy03 and TheBon's advice and got a dog brush. I take a little bit of the fleece at a time, flick comb it out and spin it.

I'm pretty happy with the results so far, though I obviously need a lot more practice. I would love to find a good book on hand spinning, any recommendations?

Any comments on my progress so far?

Uh, YEAH that looks like yarn!  Like pretty dang awesome yarn!!

Is this your first time spinning?  Because if so, you're an insanely good beginner.  Like, crazy good.  Congrats!  Welcome to the dark side!

Thanks for all the compliments!
Of course, there are also some lumpy bits and overspun bits that you can't see in the picture, but that'll even out with more practice.

Can't wait to see it all plied up and knitted though. Knitting is definitely a gate-way drug into spinning.

Oh, and theboythatspins? I think it is a castle wheel style spinning wheel (with the flyer being positioned above the wheel) and my parents bought it somewhere in the 1970's. It's been sitting in a corner looking pretty all my life until my mum said I could have it if I wanted to use it. The only one who could work it was my dad apparently (never seen him spin anything though).
