Just not enough hours in the day to do craft

« on: December 02, 2004 01:40:05 PM »

Just finished this purse last night and I am so pleased with the results I just had to show the whole world. Grin

I made a Cheongsam top for my sister using dark magenta almost red polyester satin brocade.  I made this matching purse using the off cuts as a Christmas present.   I drafted the pattern myself.  This bag has a hard base made out of mat board sewn into the lining base and a zipper at the top.  The purse is fully lined.

Height at side  19 cm, at centre 16 cm,( strap not included)
Width at base 21cm
Depth at base 9 cm

As always comments appreciated.

Here is the link for the side pattern

I would love to see other people's interpretation of my pattern.

I love the whole purse, but I must admit I'm intrigued by the bottom and how you did it.  I've been meaning to buy some chinese ebroidered silk, and now I'll have to in anticipation of your tutorial!

Great job!

Thanks for all the comments everyone.  Cheesy

I am so loving this bag that I made another one.  This is a Christmas present for my eight year old niece.  She looooves pink, so she will just adore this.  The fabric is a dyed quilting fabric with gold lightning print.

Can't wait to start the next one.  But I promise I will finish the tutorial first.   *goes back to working on tutorial*

Thank you very much for the topnotch tutorial.  You are a very fine seamstress!    When I carve out some time, I definitely want to try this.  Do you have a pattern for the sides of the bag?  Or could you tell us the dimensions?  (Did I just miss them?)  Also, what is "mat board"?  Is it the cardboard used for framing pictures?

 I need this girly bag!

Thanks for the compliment Sewer Rat.  I have been sewing for a long, long time.  It just takes practice to get good at something.

Here is the link for the side pattern.  You will need to enlarge it until the measurements in the centre are spot on.

Yep.  Mat board is used by framers.  I got a heap of offcuts for $2 from a framer.

I would love to see other people's interpretation of my A- line pattern.  *Must go start on another a- line purse*

I have finally finished the a-line purse that I was hoping to have finished for Christmas, but had to put aside to make a last minute Christmas present.
So now I have an a-line purse for myself.  The outer fabric is red satin backed shantung (shiny side out), embellished with square sequins and seed beads.

This purse is slightly larger than the first a-line purse I made.
Height at side  22 cm, ( strap not included)
Width at base 28cm
Depth at base 10 cm

Close up  of beading

I even added a phone pocket inside.

As always comments are appreciated.

I really love this purse pattern so I have made myself another one out of burgandy chinese brocade.  The dimensions are the same as the red satin one posted early (same discussion thread).

hi... I'm pretty new here and have been very fascinated by your purses over the last weeks. Finally, I've found the time to make my own. First, I tried with the original measurements. Together with the asian-inspired fabric, this makes a fantastic evening purse.

I really liked my first try and wanted a bigger purse for everyday use. I used a brown fabric with flowers stitched on. I added a inside zipper pocket and two pockets with elastic band at the top to put my mobile and other stuff.

hope you like them. please excuse my English, but it is not my mother tongue... I am from Switzerland.

Thank you. I have to say out of all the purses I have designed this is my favourite.  That's why I have made 4 so far.  The original sized pattern was intend for an evening purse, to match a evening blouse I made for my sister.  From there I just kept making them.  I am so very pleased that my tutorial and pattern has helped some one make there own cute little evening purse.

I really liked my first try and wanted a bigger purse for everyday use. I used a brown fabric with flowers stitched on. I added a inside zipper pocket and two pockets with elastic band at the top to put my mobile and other stuff.

I did the same thing for my red satin and burgandy brocade purses by enlarging the pattern slightly.

P.S.  Welcome to Craftster.  And I love both your purses.

This is a dyed quilting fabric.  As much as I would like to take credit, I did not dye this fabric.  This is the way it was when I bought it. Smiley
