I rescued this appliqued and embroidered rooster from the second hand store where he was living on a pillow case and bound for the dump. I bought him for $.50 (approximately since they sell stuff by the POUND!) I pulled out coordinating scraps from my bags of quilting scraps. Now he is part of a patchwork skirt that I can't stop looking at! I just sort of winged it (haha) on the pattern based on my understanding of A-line skirts from "Sew What! Skirts". I gave it a drawstring waist with beige twill tape. It is so delightful. Any and all cock jokes gleefully welcomed.

Oh my gosh! That is so cute! What kind of fabric did you use for the rest of that? I can see a bit of calico-type.. but I can never seem to find the right kind of fabric to do that stuff with.

as a lover of patchwork skirts (especially cute shorter versions--as apposed to long flowy "hippie" patchwork skirts, which i also like, but you know...), your skirt if fabulous!!! i love that you used recycled fabrics too! fantastic!

Instantk4rma, I used scraps accumulated for the past 4 years, so there's quite a bunch to choose from! I also clear out my grandma's scraps when I visit her because she doesn't use them as much. So you need a quilter or two in your life!

The fabrics I thought looked best were the batiks which have a tone-on-tone look to them, and mirrored the look of the embroidery on the cloth. But there was also broadcloth, prints, and, as you said, a couple calicos.
