The other night I was considering cutting my bangs so I could have Bettie Page bangs again like I used to a few years back. After thinking about it, I remembered how annoying it was to maintain (plus I have thin bangs anyhow) & style that instead of hacking of my own hair, I went into my craft stash where I had tracks of fake hair (yak hair since it is cheaper than human hair and looks about the same for what I needed it for).

Supplies needed - hair tracks, needle and thread, wig clips, & scissors

Whole thing can be finished in less than 20 minutes!

This is what it looks like - you can buy tracks of hair at beauty supply places that cater to the African American community (cost about 20 bucks). You take the length of the forehead x'2, cut it off, fold in half and sew together. You can start trimming the hair piece to the general style you want, but save the final trimming once everything is done.

Once the track is sewn together you take the wig clips --->

and sew them to the underside of the tracks with just a regular needle and thread. Note that on the wig clips there are 3 hold on each side, you only need to sew through 2 of the holes, otherwise you are sewing through the hair. * I swear on my life that these wig clips will ROCK  YOUR WORLD - as they are like those barettes that bend to snap shut. so once you secure everything - it will stay put even if you dance Smiley

This is what it will look like - you may put in as many or as few wig clips as you want but I am using 3.

clip into place and curl with a curling iron, hairspray, and trim until you achieve the look you want.

you can use you actual hair and cover the seam, or/and cover it with a headband/scarf and it should stay in place. If the hair where you want to clip your fake Bettie bangs is thin, just rat it out with some backcombing and secure.

Hope you like - suggestions and comments are welcome Smiley  - Spectrum Noir Cheesy

Aww thanks Smiley

OH yeah - if you do buy the tracks - it is almost a yard long and you can make many fake bangs (atleast 5+). Also - you know those fake hair clips they sell at the mall for like 40 bucks - that is the same premis execpt you can sew hair onto you hair claw/clips using the wig clips too Smiley

if you any of you are into this kind of thing, but want tutorials to do other stuff also, check out the heavenly hair forum tutorial sections
http://www.extra-muffins.com/hair/viewforum.php?f=16
they have a lot of stuff about synth dreads, but also whole sections on loose hair as well. some of the people on there are super knowledgeable ((not quite as nice as all the craftsters, but right up there on the knowledge scale))

p.s.  your bangs ROCK!

Having bangs covers the seam better - i clip in my fake bangs when I am too lazy to spend time actually going my hair - take less than a minute to fix my hair and I am out the door!

I am thinking about making a fakie-Sausage rolls too...http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x80/spectrum_noir/551332024_l.jpg hmm....fakie Pomp hah.. Smiley

That site was pretty cool about the wefts (aka tracks)!

An old lady friend of mine told me that in her country  - women would grow their hair out in their 20's-30's and cut it off and use their own hair for a wig. So when these ladies got old and started losing hair, they could wear a wig of their own hair and it would look completly natural.

thats reallly cool, i dont know if they still do it in some places, but it used to be that the married orthodox jewish women would shave their heads once they were married, and i cant remembed if they ever wore wigs or not, but they shaved their heads so that men besides their husbands wouldnt look at them ((or something like that...dont quote me on it))  i was just thinking with the wigs of your natural hair thing, that would work really well if they ever DID wear wigs.

holy cow! you did those so well! can you give me any further styling advice? I had tried to make some of those a few months ago, and I had NO idea what I was doing, and they came out a total disaster! maybe it was my lack of hair spray?
I have a curling iron, but they just *would not* curl under, no matter what I did. and the places where they met my hair on the sides of my face just looked awful! I had sewed the two tracks together, but they still looked kind of bizarre... I think the disaster is still lying in my bathroom, maybe I will go look at it.
Do you know if you ended up cutting it straight across?

(this whole thing is extra annoying because I HAD THOSE BANGS in high school - I mean, my hair was cut like that - and I can't figure this out and I feel like a bonehead!)
But I guess this is a little different.
thank you for any help you can give me - my hair is a lot wavier than it used to be, so having my old bangs back would be a lot more work than high school! Smiley

I never would have thought of this on my own...I need to update my picture (if I can find it among the 100's of my daughters myspace head shots...why do they all look them same?) I cut my hair and in the process of growing out my bangs to do the emo side bang like thing...  Isn't hair so fun!  When ever I want them back I'll just do that!

I bought the wig clips @ Chatham Beauty Supply that caters to African American hair extensions and supplies. I would think they would hold on to short hair because these suckers are strong and won't easily be pulled out unless snapped open.

I did it!!

My hair is really thick and coarse and curly and long... I usually straighten it like so:

Because I flat-iron my hair, I didn't want to cut bangs because I knew they woul dbe tedious upkeep. Then I found this tut and....

Bang!
Looks good with hair up,

and with hat,

Here's a closeup of where hair meets fake bangs;

Almost the perfect crime. I would definately wear this bad boy under my hat or out at night, but probably not in broad daylight. There's the weensiest indication of color change and a bit of a bump, but I LOVELOVELOVE my false bangs!!

Thank you so much!

o man, thats amazing!!!

i have the same issues too, with if i wanna cut for bettie bangs or not. i used to have them, and i rocked them for over a year too (not counting the elementary school haircuts i had, lol). then they grew out, and i cut them again, and it just didnt look the same. but i really, REALLY miss them. Im going to have to test this theory out. and they look great on you too!
