I used a free pattern from chicknits.com to make this cute, quick hat. It's called the "2 hour hat" but mine knit up in less than an hour! I cast on right before turning on "Lost" at 8 p.m., and finished before the closing credits--which is really saying a lot, since it was quite an engrossing episode! I'm going to give it to my sister-in-law for Christmas. (I might have to make one for myself too!) I used Colinette Point Five (I believe the color is Mixed Berries) that I found very cheap on Ebay.

I was hesitant to try this pattern for a long time because there are no pictures of it on the site. But I'm pleased with the results. Here is the link to the pattern:

[Since the chichknits.com pattern is no longer up, here's a pattern created by Craftster member woolgathered that you can use: http://www.woolgathered.com/basichat.html]

Very cool hat. Smiley  But I'm thinking maybe the reason it's so cute is because you're wearing it - you are crazy photogenic!

Gertie, you are a knitting machine!  Your latest project is just as fab as the ones you've made from "Last Minute Knitted Gifts."  Don't you love how fast Point 5 knits up?  You look great in the hat - so I think one for yourself should definitely be in order.

Yowza!  I want to knit like Gertie!  That gal can knit!!!  And fast too!  I love this hat and am thinking it would be a good gift for a friend in DC for the holidays.  Do you think I could sub a Rowan like big wool or something?

Aw, shucks. Thanks everyone! I think I am currently obsessed with small knitting projects (plus I'm trying to churn out those Christmas gifts!) I must say, I'm very pleased y'all think I look okay in hat--I've always thought my hair was too short to pull it off. Plus, when you add my glasses, I start to look like a little insect! But now I think I will throw caution to the wind and knit myself a hat!

Booglass, this will be perfect for Big Wool! Great idea. Make it, make it!

I think it would also be lovely in Blue Sky Bulky hand dyed alpaca http://store.purlsoho.com/purl/products/yarndetail/4

Yummy!

Jeeze Gertie, you kick ass, really  Smiley Not only do you knit well and efficiently but everything you knit is sophisticated-looking. I tried this pattern and its fun to knit, although my hat turned out a bit floppy. I think I'll give it to my mom, she likes floppy hats.
great job,
Tere

man, Gertie, you're my new knitting goddess!

I am hat cursed.  I made one hat, my second completed project ever, made it up on the fly and I love it, but every one I've tried to make after that has turned out too short or the top's funny or too big or too small.  sigh.  well, at least I have the one!   Smiley

kategirl, I don't want to seem rude but have you considered that maybe all your friends have big or oddly shaped heads and your hats perfectly fine?   Wink
