i'm west side too.   well, border of west/north.

i'm trying desperately to learn to sew and crochet, pick up knitting again, latchhooking, and painting little doodads.  yeah, very vast array.  so far, the latchhooking is going ok, sewing and crocheting, eh, but painting i like a lot.  Wink

i also take little random things around the house and try to make them look special.  i haven't succeeded too well, lol

Haha well at least you try, right?

I paint too, knit, I like making incense and weird stuff. I like stenciling, sewing [getting back into clothes and purse making lately] and pretty much anything crafty. I do a cut-n-paste metal fanzine as well.

I'm planning to pick up crochet after the holidays. If I could do it when I was 8 I can do it now dammit.

so, this post is super old. but..  i just moved to New Bedford from San Diego about a week ago. I don't really know how to get anywhere besides the supermarket, North Darmouth mall, and Savers........  so I'd super be into anyone wanting to show me around to the neato thrift shops + craft supply stores........  I did notice a JoAnn's near the mall. Anyways.. I'm going to be going to school in Providence in a month so if anyone knows any places down there they can tell me about, that would r-o-c-k.

Now this is a really really old thread but I'm from NB too. I don't know if you guys have checked these out but there are alot of open studios that are fun to visit. Check out Cove St Studios or the Star Store studios. New Bedford Antiques is always worth a visit and has a booth that sells vintage trim and buttons. Also, the second thursday of every month there is an event downtown where people sell their work and all the galleries downtown are open. There's also live music and free food!

EVA's Yarn Store has opened since this post, Eva rocks, the store has some really posh stuff. Pricey, but totally worth it!! She hosts a "knit night" there on Wednesdays.

You're kidding, that coat didn't win anything? I didn't either. The judges picked some CRAP. Unoriginal boringness mostly. How about that stupid vagina poem and crappy sketch? What a steaming pile...nevermind.

I'm in BCC for another year, 2 more semesters! I can't wait to be done with finals. I'm so spent on school. Was cool to meet you though! You are the first Craftster I've met!

Okay guys,

I'm moving this month and I need your help getting in as many awesome New Bedford related experiances in as possible before I head out. I have to admit I am strangely heartbroken over moving but I guess it's time to hang up my harpoon and move out of the whaling city....

I'm sorry to go myself. I'm moving to Providence to be closer to my job. I've been thinking that if I miss NB too much I might come back after my lease in Prov is up. My friends think I'm crazy....

I'm going to try to come back for every AHA! night. I want to keep in touch with the budding art scene and with friends. When your daughter performs let me know. I'd love to hear the performance.

I really do love my job, thankfully. I'm a textile designer at a narrow wovens company right outside of Providence. I work in the Jacquard division.

Thanks for making me feel a bit better about the move. I'll see you next AHA!!

Okay, I've gotta admit it. I love Providence. But I did go to the New Bedford Whaling Museum this weekend for an event and it was a little sad having to drive out of N.B. to get home...

Crafterbynight- thanks for the info on the drive-in. I might check it out too!

Hey all, I just found this thread.
I'm Jessica, and I live at the north end of Fall River.
I quilt mostly, but also enjoy making bags and other zakka-type items.  I've been trying to find some local crafters to hang out with, aside from my amazing quilt guild in Taunton.  You know, looking for people to thrift with, closer to my age...

Has anyone been to Westport Yarn & Art Supplies on Rt. 6?  It's pretty nifty.  She's got a bunch of vintage patterns in there.  Here's what I scored last time I stopped in:
http://littleshika.blogspot.com/2006/12/i-found-one.html

Anyway, just wanted to say hi~
