so I have two pretty full packs of floppy disks that i bought before i got my new computer which, like most new computers, does not have a floppy drive. there's about 25 in each pack and they're multicolored. do any of you genius crafsters have ideas on how i may use them? thanks!

At Treehugger.com they showed some put together with zip ties to make pen/pencil holders.  Or you could use them as coasters.  Or, take off the little metal part at the top, set it on the flat edge so both sides are up in the air and opened up a bit and you can use that part to display a photo or business cards or some small art piece.

If you put them together as a cube but can figure out how to make the top of the cube hinged (maybe some sort of tape?) you could cover the cube over and have a nice little container for storing something....maybe decoupage over the cube, or cover in fabric?

Rip out the center (round thin plastic part)

And make brooches like I did for a recent Geek Swap.  see picture -- lower right hand corner

Each pin needs three disks- cut in subsuquently smaller flower shapes--- hot glue together , add beads or resistors to decorate the front.  I stuck a small round piece of felt on the bck to cover up the glue marks and to give my pin back something to be stitched on to.

happy crafting

I've seen a loptop bag covered in floppys... sadly the link isn't working right now.

Here it is in case it works later:

I saw the title of this and was excited. I just found a box of these at my work - but they are *really* floppy disks, you know -- the kind that could actually "flop", ie, bend - the old school ones

So hmmm. They aren't as solid as the "new" diskettes - any ideas for those?

I saw somewhere on here that someone made these into note pads- punch a hole in the 2 top corners of 2 disks for the front and back covers. Cut paper to size and punch those as well. Secure it all together with rings like you'd find in a binder (the kind that snap together)- you can buy the rings in packages at an office supply store like Staples.

I meant to make some for Christmas but forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder!!
