My son was turning 6 and was not liking the cheap Darth Vader pinata at the party store and told me what he really wanted was a Death Star pinata. He was soooo cute describing it and how it would blow up and candy would fly everywhere that I couldn't resist.

This was my first time making a pinata. I've paper mached once before. Made a volcano that time that all the boys in the neighborhood exploded for quite some time.

I did about 8 layers of newspaper with flour/water and then smoothed on 1 layer of silver tissue paper. I just drew the lines on with sharpie and used green pipecleaners for the laser... The kids all took turns and finally it broke -- we had 30 kids at the party so it was one TOUGH pinata!!!

That is awesome!  The silver tissue paper makes it look a lot like the actual Death Star, and the lasers are a nice touch.

Oh is that ever clever!

For once, I'd regret blowing up the Death Star. :-)

What did you use to make it so round?

Thanks for all the comments.

To make it so round I used a punching balloon and tucked the tied nub in as well as the nub that you put the rubberband on. It made a perfect circle. :0)

Yes, the laser is a nice addition, and tissue looks good and I bet it was  a speedy way to finish it.

I've actually been planning on making a death star pinata myself, I'm just waiting for my friend to have a party.

Do you have some action shots?  I love pinata action shots.
