Cheese-kun! Amigurumi (Code Geass/Pizza Hut Japan)
«
on:

This is something I've been meaning to do -- and I did it! I crocheted Cheese-kun (チーズくん) as a gigantic amigurumi! He is smaller than 'life-size' (as compared to the huggable plush that C.C. has), but he is good huggable size for me! For those who don't know, Cheese-kun is a mascot for
Pizza Hut in Japan
, and has been seen numerous times in the anime, Code Geass - as a
prize
that C.C. has won from eating a lot of pizza. ^o^ My amigurumi plush Cheese-kun measures approximately 15" tall, and 9" wide.
Screen-caps from the anime:
(This is project #38 of 50 crafty projects in 2007.)
I also am sharing the crochet pattern for free! It can be downloaded here:
http://www.mmm-fruit.com/patterns/cheesekun.pdf
Please right-click and Save as... to your computer.
For those who make one - I would love to see your finished projects!

I have never heard of that, but it is adorable! I may try my hand at making it.
What is the 50 crafty projects in 2007 thing all about?

That is so cute! I so looooove Cheese-kun. I wish we had little cuties like that for the franchises in this country. oh well, at least I have the Japanese ones to gush over.
Thank you for sharing the pattern, I am going to buy the yarn today so I can get it started.

MrsGraves
- It's a project we've been working on at the Glitter forums - we're challenging ourselves to create and finish 50 crafty projects this year, but some people have set other # goals (for example, 25 or 30, and I'm not sure if anyone has set a goal higher than 50).
lilbandade
- awesome! Please share finished pictures here if you make one!
KittyCreates
- same! When I saw this in the anime, I googled to see if it had a name and that's when I found out it was an actual mascot at Pizza Hut... so silly, but too cute!
redfuzzy
- yeah, he is adorable! On one of the Pizza Hut websites, I saw there are other cheesy characters (like a tiny one!). Please post pictures when you finish making one!
WIPs
- thanks! He's not very well known - he seems to be a mascot for Pizza Hut in Japan, but only for kids? I only see him in the Kids section of their website. I found out about him from watching the anime series, Code Geass. (Which, by the way, is now licensed for USA, so perhaps Cheese-kun will gain more popularity now!)

Wow that's really cute. I get movies from Netflix and I was hoping that Code Geass would be on there but sadly it isn't. Thanx for sharing the pattern and I'm like KittyCreates the more I learn about the Japanese culture the more I love it. I want to try japanese candy called Pocky but i can't find it here.

I'm always amazed at the Japanese ability to create cuteness out of stuff you wouldn't think would work. I mean c'mon- cute cheese man? It's brilliant. Well done!

Pocky rocks. If you can find an Asian grocery near you or possibly a World Market store, you should be able to locate some.

- Thanks! Code Geass is currently airing in Japan (the final two episodes are scheduled for end of this month), but it has recently been licensed for USA by Bandai? I think.. so I would expect it here in the USA maybe next year? I don't really know how long they take.
Re: Pocky -- it can often be found at Asiang grocery stores, but occasionally I find it in the food aisle in Safeway/Raleys that has the Asian & Hispanic import goods.

Oh my gosh there is a Safeway right down the street from me. I go there all the time. I have to go there tomorrow hopefully and see if they have it.

You make 2 legs separate then the third leg and crochet all them together. Hope that makes sense.

I had seen this project before I ever watched the anime; so this past year when some of my friends got me to watch Code Geass when they first showed a scene with CC and her Cheese-Kun I was like "I've seen that before!". So I had to go find this pattern and show my friends (They think I should spend less time crafting and more time watching anime XD)
