I've already started taking photos with film- but I just rememberd- I'm really not that great of a photographer! Maybe I should do digital! OH, I just don't know!
If you still need help organizing- I'd be willing to help too  Smiley

Don't worry! Pictures with fingers in them can be fun, too. Especially in a swap like this... I love mess up pictures, it's exiciting to me to see how they develop. I've got a couple nice SLR cameras that I got at the thrift store, so no manual, and somehow I've ended up putting the timer on for the first shots..

Did you actually live in chicago?  or in the burbs?  because I was from FAR FAR north side..Gurnee area.

Has anyone thought about black & white film? Can you even buy black & white film? Is it more expensive to process? Do you have to go to a camera/film shop instead of a Walgreens, CVS or Wal-mart?

I'd like to take pics in my hometown (a small town on the southeast coast of Massachusetts) and some of the things would look cool in black & white. They'd still look pretty neat in color, I guess Wink

You can buy black and white 35mm film (I think I've even seen a black and white disposable camera, but that was many moons ago at walgreens), but I think it's a bit more expensive than color film and I have no idea how much it would cost to develop. I was also thinking of black and white film, but I'm not sure if I'll get any. I would check at walgreens/CVS/Wal-mart first and then try a camera shop. But I'm pretty sure walgreens can process it...

Is anyone going for an underwater disposable camera?

Also, I collect vintage and junk cameras... so I may be taking pictures using this:

...but if I do, it will only be a 12 exp. roll of film.  Wink

On my digital I can do black and white, sepia, and of course color.  Most of mine will be in color.  I can't think of what would be good in black and white, but then I live in a small historic touristy town, black and white could give it that time gone by look (except for the millions of cars, especially since our county fair going on right now is in my town).

I lived in Chicago for a while in college. It was northside, but actually in Chicago. haroldlovesmaude (good movie reference by the way) Wow! that looks like it would be fun AND annoying to take pics with.

haha, thanks. It's kinda weird, though, cause it has a square viewfinder, but it is most certainly a 35mm camera.. ??

Actual black-and-white film can't be processed at most retail stores.
But you can get "black and white" color film (which is treated so it can be processed with color chemicals and printed on color paper) that is easier get processed.  Kodak makes one brand, I know.  It's a tad more expensive to buy the film but costs the same to print.  However, I've found that processors who use a computer-run system (like Walgreens and CVS) tend to come out purple or maroon instead of black because the computer is set to balance color film.

Does anyone use medium-format film?  I'm addicted to the look of it and since I can't afford a new camera right now, I'd love to get some shots...

I thought it would be fun to post some of our previous photography to get to know one another...  my art journal is missing at the moment but here's a few things I happened to have on my computer.

These next few are pictures taken of pictures through glass, so you can kind of see my chandelier reflected in them... They're done with crazy lenses and darkroom techniques, so they really are supposed to be blurry, scratchy, and dirty.  I really wish I could get some better pictures of the pieces, because they are bloody gorgeous.

I hope I can find a partner who doesn't mind  my intentionally-ugly and artsy photos.
