I posed this question to my swap partner, but thought it would be a good brainstorming, craft idea question:

What sustainable things do you do generally?

In my house we recycle, use old (but cool fabric) clothes to make new stuff, we use eco-friendly cleaning/household/beauty supplies. My roommate bikes everywhere (no car) and my other roommate is an art teacher, so everything tends to have a 2nd purpose in our house. No garden right now, but we do have a load of plants. We also recycle our pool water onto the lawn, which surprisingly, has died yet.

good idea!
What sustainable things do you do generally?
i keep most everything non-recyclable to re-craft
like washing old chip wrappers to see if i'll ever learn to make purses out of them.. haha!
i try to buy my clothing thrift or vintage, or raid friends closets, b/c cotton is treated with SOOO much pesticides
i do the whole turn-the-water-off-in-the-shower-when-you-dont-absolutely-need-it thing
i try to eat as much organic as i can
and i do a few online eco-related petitions!

oh.. and i used to be the president of treehuggers club senior year Cheesy

Well in our house we recycle almost everything. I use cloth pads and a diva cup. Buy a lot of thrifted items instead of new. Try not to use pesticides, I broke down and bought some last week though. My Mom can't understand that in the south we have a lot of bugs and it doesn't mean we're dirty if they get inside  Roll Eyes We use earth friendly cleaners. General energy and water saving things, I'm trying to wear off on my Hubby but so far it's just extended to recycling.

I'm so glad we found out partners, now I just have to think of what to make.

Actually this week at my house I had a major breakthrough. After years of struggling, I've finally gotten my whole family to agree to recycling! We're talking five adults with a lot of caffeine addictions and magazine subscriptions. So now every Sunday I take boxes of recyclables to the center and our regular trash has been cut down to about 1/5 of what it was. Also, I've gotten my dad into organic bug spray, we throw all our scraps into a compost pile now and we're buying mostly local veggies.

Step 1 done! I figured out what my crafts are going to be... now to get crafting.. I spent the weekend with friends who are super organic/sustainable/earth savers. She's been working on a composting for a few months and I had my fingers in that this weekend. But don't worry Skapende, you won't be getting compost!
