Show off you giant veggies or just your green thumb

Can anyone help me identify these berries?
If they are eddible either by human or dog or poisonous.
The birds are loving them so far, it was hard to find ripe ones to take pics of.
If they are poisonous I'm thinking of using them as a natural dye they have a very pretty inner color of reddish purple.
FYI I'm almost 6ft tall & this plant is about a foot taller than me.

I can't help you identify them, but we have those crazy bushes in our yard. They just popped up out of nowhere! I'm pretty sure it's a weed of some sort, but I could be wrong.

Those are, in fact, pokeweed.  Lots of people use them to make dye, so knock yourself out!

Thanks so much! My FIL is a avid bird watcher I should take a starter to him to plant. Now I get an excuse to play with dyes. It says the roots can cause a rash so I may not be able to use them.

calizfornia tulle works great for keeping birds & large bugs away & its pretty cheap. We had cicadas (sp?) really bad here in Ohio about 3yrs ago & you could hardly find tulle in the craft stores because all the farmers had bought it out. I watched some of my neighbors trees & it worked really well.

In colonial times they used the berries as ink and did indeed use the berries for dye.... They stain like crazy..

Yes, this is pokeweed/pokeberry. You can make dye from it just fine but PLEASE don't eat it!
I work at the Poison Control Center in Oklahoma City and we get calls about this pretty often. Some people make "salad" from the leaves of this plant but it has to be well cooked and drained then cooked at least once more and drained... you get the idea, something like spinich. It's definitely NOT something I would recommend. Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are just the start if it isn't prepared correctly. Also, the berries are toxic to humans if eaten; I would send a kid to the ER if they ate only 10, if that gives you a clue (but then I like to play it safe with kids). I don't know how they would work on pets but birds can and do eat them safely.

Well, it was a bountiful morning indeed...I had to show off what I picked out of my garden this morning.....I am so excited...MY 1st WATERMELON!  I just picked/and showed my first cantaloupe, and theres at least 5 more medium sized, and lots more baby watermelons, too. To help identify the items, in front of the watermelon are 2 white eggplant, and in front of those are 3 lemon cucumbers(small and round and DEELISH) and all round the sides, as you can guess are good ole regular cucumbers, and last (and least) are some Dragons Tongue Beans...I've been eating tons of these, and they are great! They loose the color purple when you cook them, but still taste great. There aren't very many here because I had to come in because of the mosquito's eating me alive!

Guess its time to make the tabouli!
