Swap name: Care of Magical Creatures
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: hardyswanton01
Co-org: phantomssiren
Sign-up date range: July 23rd-August 4th, 2007
Date to send item by: September 7th, 2007
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 25, unless I get a co-organizer (if interested, PM me; experienced parties only)

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO

All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All ages, but you need permission from a parent if under 18, as well as a way to stay in contact and get to the post office in a timely manner

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

You will be crafting a creature from the Harry Potter world for ONE partner.  Your creature can be knitted, crocheted, sewn or made of felt, or any combination of those crafts, and stuffed with something friendly.  The idea is to send your partner something they can care for, cuddle, so no wood, ceramic, etc.  You can use beads and notions for details, of course, but the creature should be soft and snuggily.  Creatures can be any magical creatures mentioned in the books, movies or subsequent texts (Fantastic Beasts).  Some good ones are: nifflers, puffskeins/Pygmy Puffs, owls, dragons, Blast-Ended Skrewts.  Fantastic Beasts includes mermaids and werewolves as well.  There are SO many possibilities!  Im giving a good, long crafting time as well which should cut down on late senders (Im optimistic).

Now, this is a bit tricky to lay down in size and crafting time.  I think a good measuring tool is a teddy bear, at least 6 and no bigger than 12.  For this swap, I want to stress everyone creativity and detail: the more you put in, the better your creature will look.  I expect this to be a *large* project, both in size and time commitment.  If you dont think you can commit yourself to making the best, most life-like creatures, then youll want to skip this swap.  Im willing to take on this challenge, are you?

Yes, some of the creatures are bigger than others: doxie vs dragon is a good example, but this isnt about making things true to size, its about true to craftster swap standards as far as *large* projects go.  If youre concerned, PM before signing up.  6-12 is the rule for this project; I know that doesnt fit everyone, but maybe someonell be inspired to do a creatures charms swaps with small versions, beads, etc.

For help, see mugglenet.coms Encyclopedia entries for Magical Creatures, http://www.mugglenet.com/infosection/creatures/creatures1.shtml,
use Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, any book artwork and of course, the movies.

Rules:

1.  Post at least once in this thread so we can communicate with you easily.
2.  US participants must get a DC number.  International shippers keep your receipts as proof of shipping.  Failure to do this will be noted in your feedback and if your package does not arrive you will have to resend.  If you have proof of shipping and your package doesn't arrive I will get a swap angel and you will still get positive feedback.
3.  Communicate!  When you have shipped pm the DC number to me (you can send it to your partner, too--it's fun to track the progress of a package headed your way).  **If you are going to be late, let me know by the shipping deadline.**  If I do not hear from you, you will receive NEGATIVE feedback, preventing you from signing up for more swaps until you have cleared it up.   Sending early, late, getting DCNs, and having good or bad communication will all be noted in your feedback.   I will not troll the galleries looking for posts, you must let me know when you receive so that I can update everyones feedback in a timely manner.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer (reference this swap in subject line)

I'm in! Like the name of the swap, and I like being able to focus on just one item. Should we assume people have read book 7 yet, or should we be careful of spoilers? Hopefully by the time we have partners most people will have read it.

Darn it! I was watching this swap to see when it would get to sign-ups, but now I'm already in too many swaps.
