I've got a burning technique question:

The first scarf was stitched k1p1, meaning that one would alternate stitches, not rows.  When I experimented with this I got something rather ugly--it was simply impossible to pick up stitches after the first row!  I'm doing something wrong--but what?  Alternating k1p1 rows means that it'll be a regualr knit/V stitch, yet the pictures don't show a garter stitch underside, which is why I'm confused.

Can somebody enlighten me, pretty please?   Shocked

k1p1 will give you ribbing.  you need to make sure that the number you cast on is divisable by two or else you'll be doing moss/seed stitch and that looks very different. Iin ribbing (or even in mmoss stitch) bothe sides are identical - there is no right or wrong side.  I hope that answers your question.

I do this a lot too.  Usually I use several strands of Peaches N Cream cotton yarn, but sometimes I like to use yarns with different textures, like Simply Soft combined with a thinner faux fur.

those scarves are SO cute and i love the idea!!! i have so many skeins of red heart taking up space in my stash, right now i'm specifically thinking of 4 skeins of this variegated one, it's fuschia and teal, it would look totally adorable using your 3 strand idea. total stashbusting!!!! thanks!!!
