This was completed awhile back, in April, as you can tell from the cherry blossoms in the "after" picture, but I just located a "before" picture, so here we are.

My friends bought me this maternity wedding dress at some clearance outlet as a joke before my wedding. Here's one of them modeling, with the aid of a pillow:

I loved the fabric (silk dupioni) and neckline so much that I considered having it altered and actually wearing it for my wedding. In the end, I decided against it. But I dyed it and altered it to wear to one of their weddings, exactly one year after mine:

The fabric lost some of its sheen in the dyeing process, but I was still pretty happy with the results!

edited to add:
I can't believe I forgot to add this! I used the fabric cut from the bottom of the dress, and a shawl that came with it, to make purses for those friends. Here's one:

Many thanks to stacysews for her tutorial!

That dress is awesome!  Nice job!  That's definitely a big transformation.  Smiley  I love the color you dyed it, as well.  Smiley

The connotations wearing my nerves thin
Could it be semantics generating the mess we're in?
I understand that language breeds stereotype
But what's the explanation for the malice, for the spite?

No, I ordered supplies from http://dharmatrading.com/. I found the site, and customer service, really helpful in determining what I needed. I probably would've gone the RIT route had it not been silk.
