The title says it all really, but I need a super duper strong long dress zip (which can be undone and done a gazillion times) and the one I put in this weekend (ie 3 days ago  Roll Eyes) is already doing that stupid thing where it undoes itself in the middle even though it's done up.

Are there any rules for which zips to buy? Or am I kidding myself that this is possible?

Thank you x  Kiss

There are some heavy duty zips out there made for jackets (mostly).  They are a lot heavier on the material around the zipper teeth and the metal is larger and 'sturdier' looking.  They can come in boxes (labeled heavy duty) or can be 'loose' and have a tag to hang it by in the store (those tend to be made of plastic, but still sturdy) and also says heavy duty or (made for) coats.  The nice thing about these zips is that they tend to come in longer lengths.

For reeeeally strong, long zippers, check out the ones made for upholstery. Honest-to-thread sofa zippers. Metal teeth!

Sounds like the heavy-duty jacket zips will work for you, though.

BTW, you know it's fairly easy to shorten zips, right? So don't worry about exact sizes.

zipperstop.com has nice zippers and they also will customize the size for you if you don't want to fool around with cutting it-- I bought a zipper from there and it worked out really well (sewed it into a knit sweater).

I second spacestitch's recommendation - they also have a ton of colors at zipperstop, too, besides length choices.  And fast, great service.  Most important for me, they are very reasonably priced.
