The cupcake was my first project. I could get the rolled log to look right so i did it this way. Any tips on frosting using a log?
The cake I just did a little bit ago. I was going to make them earring but when i put the jump rings on, they are the perfect size for stitch markers.

please ignore all the debris on the cake slices, i had a horrendous time keeping them clean!

those are wonderful!  i love the little cherries. ^^;

if you want to stop the streaks from happening, just let the clay sit for a bit so that it hardens up before you cut it.  that way, you won't get the streaky-ness. Smiley

Thank you! As far as the streaks, i did have them in the freezer for a few hours but i also used a serrated plastic knife which i supsect is my biggest problem. I was too impatient to hunt for my exacto blade. Any thoughts on keeping dust and tiny hairs off?

I think the streaks on the cake look really interesting, they make it look really soft and textured.

Before I read your post I just saw the picture I thought wow thats really clever how did she do that? Does anyone remember the icecream Viennetta that technique would be perfect to make one of those.

vienetta!  OH LORD i loved that thing!

(that's how i got nice and round, btw. Wink) lol

but um... anyway, yeah that serrated knife stuff is what probably got the streaks into your clay.  if you want it smooth, then just invest in some cheapy razor blades.  Otherwise, that texture does look mighty nice!

to keep dust and hairs, etc, here's what i do:
- wear white or lightly colored clothing
- put my hair into a bun before starting
- use a clean tile as my "work space" instead of just a plain table
- have a bowl of water and a clean paper towel handy to dip my hands into every few minutes (helps wash off the dust, esp. when you're working with white).

hope that helps, and keep up the great work!! <3
