hanging earring holder

i saw an earring holder made from a branch on a blog a while back, but it had a base. it was beautiful but i don't have any room on my vanity for anything else to sit so i decided to use the branch idea but just suspend it from the ceiling with fishing line. i thought about spraypainting the whole thing white or red or something. anyway, let me know what you think, if you have any suggestions, i'm not totally attatched to it, so any input would be appreciated. thanks!

cute idea. I, personally, would leave it natural rather than painting it, it's beautiful as-is. did you put lacquer or anything on the branch to keep it "pretty"?

no, i didn't put any kind of finish on the branch, it's au natural. i brushed it a little with an old toothbrush to get the outside dust/dirt off. that's all.

it's funny, i like the thing, i think it's cute, but when i look at the pics all i see is this...decorated floating stick. does anyone have any suggestions on how i could make it look more intentional and less..."hey look at this stick i found"?

what did you hang it from on your ceiling? I know you used fishing wire, but how did you attach that to your ceiling? I'm thinking about doing the same thing but use it in my dorm and I can't make holes in the ceiling.

i just tied the fishing line around the branch, then tied the other end to a thumbtack (which shouldn't leave any kind of noticable hole in your ceiling). there's two points to keep it from swinging or spinning. then i just put a little dab of hot glue on the knots so they'd stop undoing themselves.

Maybe it would look more intentional if you hung the stick so that it looked like it was coming out of the wall? Hang the strings closer to the edge of the ceiling, and maybe dab some glue on the base of the stick to hold it to the wall better.
