So, first a disclaimer. I pretty much shamelessly stole this design from user Riddikulus's post here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=177375.0 but she said she wants other people to interpret them, so I obliged!

I basically just took a black tee and with a combo of freehand painting and stenciling got the design on there, then sewed a hood on the back.  I love it and I can't wait to wear it on Friday for the release!

The finished shirt!

Myself modeling

It has a hood!

Close up of the Gryffendor crest (anyone have any ideas on how to get that remnant of freezer paper off?!)

Thank you so much for the inspiration, Riddikulus! If anyone wants to do a personal Harry Potter swap, I'd be happy to make you one of these babies!

k that's adorable.

As for the freezer paper, try lifting the edge up with a pin, then pulling it off.

Great job with that...  It looks great on you and you can totally tell exactly what it is supposed to be.   I wonder if you could warm up the paper just a tad and then pull it off...  I haven't tried the freezer paper yet, but maybe if the wax got a tad warm it might come off???  Dunno...  but great job!

Well, I was going to wear my "I trust Snape" shirt to the book party Friday night, but I think I just might have to make this!  It looks so great!  I love it, you did an awesome job.  Cool idea, Riddikulus.

LOVE IT! I was wanting to dress up for the book party but I couldn't think of anything to wear. This is a great idea and it seems fairly easy. I just have one question... what kind of paint did you use? Thanks and great job!

I might make a similar one for slytherin, I'm more for slytherin and raven claw than hufflepuff and gryffindor.

I have a long black sweater that I could use, so I might just put the stenciling on, and did you use regular acrylic paint? Or what paint did you use?

That is amazingly awesome!!  For a second there I didn't get what the stripes on the bottom were for.  Then I saw the pic of you modeling and I get it now!!  I might just have to steal the idea too.  My friend and I are getting together tomorrow to make our costumes!!  I can't wait!!

about the freezer paper stuck to the shirt...I was thinking about this today and I know that if you get wax on a table cloth you can get it off by freezing it.  I wonder if taking an ice cube to it wouldn't help to release the wax from the freezer paper as well.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all the great comments! To answer a few questions...

For the paint I used acrylic mixed with textile meidum, but honestly it's a bit crunchy and if I were to do it again, I'd look for something that would leave the fabric softer...maybe fabric paint or something like that?

For the hood, I cut out 4 d-ish shapes, two maroon and two black. Sewed each color together on the curve, and then each of those all most all the way around (right sides together, of course). Then I flipped it right side out and sewed up the little hole I had left. Then, since I knew I probably wouldn't be actually wearing the hood up on my head I sewed it by putting on the hood right side up, attaching the bottom of the hood to the outside of the shirt collar.  Does that make sence?

I hope that answers peoples questions. I can't wait to wear it to my Potter Party tomorrow!!

Wow, that's really awesome!

I wish I'd read this yesterday!
I'd love to make one for my HP party tonight, but I don't think the paint would dry by then. Sad

But *thumbs up* to you!

...about the wax... maybe you can lay a paper towel over the shirt & iron over that...then the wax may be lifted to the paper towel? Kind of like how you get candle wax out of a carpet?

Very cool shirt!  Wink
