Hobbit Feet Socks

I just finished my son's Hobbit Feet Socks!  I used Lion Brand "Wool Ease" for the main sock (only 20% wool, ick, but it was cheap and will wear forever) and Lion Brand "Fun Fur" for the fuzzy hobbit foot fur.  Pretty cute, eh?  He loves them.

I knit back-and-forth across the top of the foot, adding in the Fun Fur,  and then knit back-and-forth on the bottom of the foot, joining with the side edges of the top as I went.  And then made a regular toe.

Thanks everyone!  I love craftster.org SO much!  Where else can you find so many people who appreciate the coolness of crafting?  I'm in awe of some of the great ideas I've read here, and it's an honor to add to them :)    If anyone else makes Hobbit Socks, I'd love to see photos.  One word of advice -- don't drop a stitch of that slippery eyelash yarn.  Yuck!  It's really hard to find it again if you do :)

Hey maybe I should describe that funky stitch pattern I used for the furry part...

On right-side rows:
With Worsted Yarn, slip 1st stitch, K1.  Then, with Eyelash Yarn held in FRONT of the work, P1.
Now, K1 with WY, P1 with EY across.
P the LAST stitch with WY.

Turn.

On wrong-side rows:
With WY, slip first stitch, then bring yarn to front.
Keep EY in BACK now (on right side of work).
Now, look at the next stitch on the left needle. If it is an EY stitch, P1 with WY.  If it's a WY stitch, K1 with EY.  And so on across.  P the last stitch with WY.

Keep that EY on the right side of the work at all times for ULTIMATE HAIRINESS!! ;-)

Work rather loosely, as two-color knitting isn't so stretchy.

Slipping the 1st stitch and Purling the last makes a nice chain edge that is very easy to pick up once you start working the sole of the foot.

Firefly -- _Prodigal Summer_ was by FAR my favorite Kingsolver book.  Have you read that one?  I just finished _Good Faith_ by Jane Smiley.  Meh.  It was ok.  Reminded me of the only time I tried to read Trollope.. lots of good characters but nothing much ever happens, heheh.  Looks like this guy is going to be swindled... and then, 700 pages later, he is swindled, the end.  Maybe I missed the point somewhere!

Ok I need to go work on my knitted hot water bottle cover (inspiration courtesy of courtleigh23 over in Discuss Future Projects) and plan a sewn messenger bag!  Oh man I love craftster.org!

kayray-yes!  i read that 3 summers ago, and i live in an area just like she describes-it was such a sultry time-also my favorite book by a longshot, and that's saying a lot.
i just finished her most recent book of essays- small wonder.  much different than her fiction, but everything she writes about is something i care deeply about, and she's such a thoughtful and funny writer, i enjoyed reading it as much as her other books.

i'll be checking back to your booklist for more suggestions
