I finally made a Mary Jane Pithy hat (http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pithyhat.htm ) in a cool mustard color.  I like this hat a lot!  However, the "purse stitch" was a bit challenging for me at first.  If I made a mistake, it was hard to "unknit" the stitch to find the error.  Consequently, I frogged this hat many times prior to success.  This is not to scare anyone off, I just want to forewarn those who've never done this stitch before to pay attention to what you're doing.  It's not super-hard, you just have to get used to it.  I finally just cast on for a totally new hat (the mustard color, the frogged one was white).  This last time was the charm: I just got used to the stitch and I didn't make any mistakes!  It was worth the process though, because I like the looks of this hat a bunch and I will definitely make more!

I love it! I want to make a hat like this. I'm not super hip and missed out last winter, and I'm really glad they're still in style.
Is your hat a cotton yarn?

Ok.  I'm not a yellow-loving person, but this color is fantastic!  It looks so great on you.  The design is so cool, too.  It looks kinda like a snood, and boy have I got a thing about snoods (a ren-faire girl at heart, I am).

aliciasjoy it is Lion Brand Cotton-Ease (50 cotton/50 acrylic).  Great yarn and very affordable!

Yes, anneadeline, it kind of does look like a snood!  I like the pattern because you can tuck all your hair up in it (for those bad hair days)!
