I want to make a bag kind of like this.

http://www.babyage.com/products/htd150_hottie_tottie_designs_hottie_tottie_black_toile_laminated_diaper_bag.htm?cp=sh27314&utm_source=sh&utm_medium=Comparison&utm_campaign=27314

I am not sure how I would attach the solid ribbon.  I am thinking I would sew my top and bottom pieces together and then just top-stitch the ribbon on.  Is there a better way to do this?  Thanks.

Maybe you could sew them as two seperate peices and use the ribbon to join them?

I've made quite a few bags with a ribbon stripe like that and I have done exactly what you said...sew the bottom to the top and then put your ribbon over the seam and top stitch along the top and bottom edges of the ribbon.  I usually measure down from the top of the bag as I'm pinning on the ribbon to make sure I get it straight.  Here is one that I have made like that:

Good luck.

JuliaAnn,
Did you make that purse from a pattern? I love the shape.

Thanks

Thanks.
I think it's just the basic Jordy and I just changed up the measurements.  If you would like to know the dimensions, I can see if I can find my pattern.  Let me know.

Just remember to be careful with white ribbon.  It can sometimes show the background fabrics through the ribbon!

Thank you all for the replies.  I am using red satin ribbon with a black and toile bag.  I am so excited and will post a pic when I am done.

Julie, that bag is gorgeous!
