i just spent forever on this, so i'm just gonna post it and go to bed. enjoy!

**edit again**

if you are using thin/floppy/weak fabric, rather than the super stiff houndstooth that i used, you WILL want to interface the outer pieces. just baste or iron interfacing onto all the outer A and C pieces. i recommend buying craft interfacing rather than garment interfacing (they should be right next to each other) and getting at least 30-weight if not heavier.

**edit**
remember to leave yourself some seam allowance, as these are the finished dimensions.
piece A was approximately 27 x 14.
piece B was about 14 wide by 12 tall.
piece C was 12x3.
piece D was around 4 inches square (and you can make it from either fabric, since it's gonna be the loops to hold the D-rings)
piece E was about 4x8 (which would make a 4-inch square pocket, but you can modify that as you like)

as far as the strap goes, i actually didn't make one. i ran out of houndstooth (which is why the flap is pink), and the pink fabric is stretchy, so i left the strap up to her (the bag is for my 14 year old sister, for her bookbag for school)

as for the buttons, they're just decorative. i don't have a buttonholer foot for my machine, and i'm not about to do it by hand, so all the buttons i do are decoration. i may add velcro, underneath them, next time she brings it over, though

**/edit**

Looks like a great tute, can't wait to try it!  Just wondering if you had any dimensions on your pieces, and how much fabric was used?

ah, that's great! are those buttons just decorative, or is that how you secure the flap? and what did you use for the strap? i'm thinking of making a messenger bag with a zipper pocket inside (as per the crafster zipper tutorials). thanks for the great-looking tutorial!

What weight fabric did you use and was there any kind of interfacing to stiffen the bag? I have some cotton that I want to use because I love the pattern but it wouldn't make for a very durable bag.

very nice, and i love the color scheme and the handle!

i, personally, used a fairly heavy set of fabrics. the houndstooth was a heavier woven, felt kinda like upholstery material or even burlap. The pink was a stretch twill weave (like denim) that was about as heavy as a thin pair of jeans. together, they gave it quite a bit of body on its own. if you're using thinner fabrics, i'd definitely go with interfacing, maybe even a heavy-duty craft interfacing (look for something about as thick as a dime) and just make sure to get fusible for this project, it'll make everything much easier...

I made this today, it's for a swap so just in case my swap partner happens to visit this site I'll post photo's in a few day's once I know she has received hers :-)

BTW I LOVE this pattern, made a few adjustments, forgot to sew in the pockets I cut out... argh... anyway... it was pretty easy :-) I also interfaced mine as I used a lighter material.

i'm so glad you enjoyed making it! i've actually been planning to add "use interfacing if your fabric is floppy" to the main tute, but have completely forgotten every time i sit down at the computer!

i hope your swap partner loves it, and i can't wait to see pics!

Thank you so much for posting the tutorial for this bag! I loved making it, and I am so excited for school tomorrow, seeing as I will be using my bag! (I never thought I would say that I was excited for school). Well, It took me around 2-3 hours, and I had a lot of fun making it, I chose the colors based on Hogwarts' Hufflepuff colors, and since I love dinosaurs (hence the screenname), I chose the Dino buttons to cover up the snap on clips I used.
I posted the pictures on my blog, I couldn't figure out how to post pictures on this post. But, I also posted them on Crafster on the gallery which is http://www.craftster.org/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=344845 and also
http://www.craftster.org/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=344841&cat=500&ppuser=213022
I would really like feed back, this is the first time I ever made such a big bag

Fixed it! Sorry about that, the file location changed slightly (everything on that site got put into one gigantic folder, so it added one level of names to the URL), and I hadn't found everything that needed updated yet. If you see anything else in my stuff that needs updated, PM me and let me know!!

Thanks Smiley
