Hooray! My scanner finally arrived yesterday, and works! In honor, I made some cards this morning, and scanned them in steps along the way, to help those less collage inclined to figure out the steps to mixing and layering papers. I know this is a rather simple demo, but I'm not in the mood for 'serious' artwork.
Here's the finished project, 3 cards for a 'bright and colorful Whimsical swirl swap'. It's a pretty open theme, so I made up these little girls, which I am affectionately dubbing, the TipTop Dolls! I'm sure there will be more of them to come.
First, gather some colorful paper scraps...printed or plain, large or small. Also, for the faces, I used some white oval labels someone had given me (in the center, you can see I started to draw already!). Feel free to use use paper (white or otherwise) for these instead.
You also need some ATC blanks, colorful is great! Mine were shiny bright blue (2) and one white one. The white one I quickly colored yellow and orange with markers.
(backgrounds in bottom left corner). I used a lot of this stuff, but not all of it.
First, I made the backgrounds special, with swirly marker lines. (top part) Be free with it, most will be covered up in the end.
Next, I made my little tiptop dollies! (bottom 3, L to R)
1: First, I cut a white oval in 1/2, and pasted that on paper for a little face.
2: I cut a simple shape for the body, around the head, and a pointy hat! I started drawing a stylized face on it, as well as swirls on the face and body...
3: Next, decorate the dolly! Facial features, ink on the outlines, a pocket, hat, and little details.
Next, I finished all 3 dollies, and glued them (off centered) on the backgrounds.
I added a wavy line of patterned paper, which I added more swirlies too with markers.
I drew around the lines and borders with a sharpie to make them stand out a bit!
Lastly, I used my stamps to add the word 'swirly' to each card, and drew on them a bit more. Added a few more details (clothes, hats, faces) and I added more contrast with black AND white, which helps the colors actually pop more. The whites of the eyes, and borders on the cards with ink, and dotted backgrounds.
Silly fun little dolly girls.
