Thanks for this tutorial Kategirl.....

I have made another of these superb bags.  This time, altered slightly with a coin pocket on the front and in miniature form:

Nice tut. My only problem was with the pocket & the zipper, I ended up using an 11 in zipper. Here are some pics of my bag, I used some D rings instead of the clasp b/c they were lying around.

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong...when I put the lining inside the bag (exterior facing in, lining facing out) I can't get it to turn right way out properly!! The exterior all just kind of flaps off the back without covering the lining at all. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.  is this after you sewed it and turned it right side out?  when you say it flaps off the back, do you mean that the flap doesn't want to stay down, or that it separates from the lining and gaps, or....?  I'd really like to help if I can figure it out.  Huh

Before you start stitching the lining and the outer fabric together you have to make sure that the right sides of both are facing each other. So, you can position like it is in the picture here, or you can have the outer part with the right side out and tuck it into the lining. Either way, if you have the right sides together, you can't go wrong.

Katiegirl: Cool bag btw, it's one of the many patterns that are on my to-do list.

Yes, just as Binoo said, you need to have the right sides facing each other.  Also, to elaborate, make sure you have one bag (meaning one lining bag and one outer bag) inside the other (with right sides together).
