I learnt to knit a little while ago, and these look great! I'm thinking of joiing them up to make a blanket though...

the.fee.fairy... you can still join! you have plenty of time to do 50 different patterns still, if you worked really hard and even if you didn't make it, thats fine because you'll have all these washcloths all around and you won't know how you lived without them!  between the crochet cloths and the knit cloths, i am SO hooked!

Cool! I started the Batty one -i'm a new knitter, so i'm not jumping in at the deep end.

Its coming out ok, and i think this could be a very addictive new hobby...

Woohoo!

I've finished the Batty cloth! I'm so pl;eased with myself. The only problem is that i used a black tweed wool, and its got flecks of other colours in it so the pattern doesn't show.
I'll take a pic when i find my camera.

I started the flower one in a lovely pink wool, but i got halfway through and realised that not only was that wool not enought, but also that i didn't have any more. So i had to rip it and start another one.


So.... NEW STITCH!! For me, anyway. I'm doing the Darrel Waltrip. Its a lovely cloth, in a really bright variegated wool. I'm in love. I think, when i've finished the challenge, i'll be making a jumper (sweater) from the same wool, there's something glorious about it!

Welcome to the world of knitting!  I look forward to seeing your photos.  Now...about the wool...

If you use a wool cloth with soap, hot water, or just lots of rubbing in general...

You'll get...FELT...which is really cool in it's own right!  It's actually considered 'fulling' the wool if you wash and shrink a knitted or crocheted item to make felt and it is in major STYLE right now.

Just didn't want you to get all dissappointed when your dishcloth comes out looking like a coaster after doing the dishes!  You also will not keep any design element if it felts.

Try dishcloth cotton yarn for your dishcloths!  It's grand and doesn't shrink!

so I know I'm really late into this (I found this KAL looking for dish cloth patterns for christmas gifts, probably won't do 50) but is there any reason the jimsyldesign links aren't working? after seeing some of your creations from those patterns, I'd love to make a couple (specifically collande and would like to see some others) but I can't get to them

I'm not actually using wool (i'm in the UK - wool tends to be wool whether its from a sheep or not). I'm using bits and pieces that are in my mum's stash! And...i'm going to make a throw/blanket type affair with the squares - i can't bear for anyone to wash dishes with my beautiful creations!!!

Oh, good!  I did not know that about the UK!  Kind of like us saying, "Do you want a Coke?" here in Texas.  That could mean ANY softdrink... you just reply with the brand of drink you actually want.
