What has helped me the most in knitting is the knittinghelp.com website!  Great online videos.  Also, I tried dpns with English style knitting (holding and throwing the yarn with your right hand) and gave up.  I switched to Continental style (holding the working yarn in my left hand and just 'picking' the stitches) for dpns and it is now my preferred method for all my knitting!

Both ways are shown in video on that website...as well as having an extensive Knitting Abbreviations and Terms page to help you decipher all of the abbreviations.

Check it out!!!  If all else fails, come learn from me!

no problem, at least you didn't make my beginner's mistake - I thought that slip stitch just meant slip it OFF the needle! I was dropping stitches all over the place, lol

Okay people, our internet was down for a few days and it might go down again... I might go through the list and copy down some of the patterns to my hard drive.  But anyway, my roomie tested out the Open Star pattern and he said it doesn't work well in the shower, so it'll definitely be a dishcloth :-p

It's called Kate the Cat from Knitting Pattern Central.

Can you make out the image?  The kitty is in garter, the background in st.stitch.

Same as before:  no. 7 needles, Lily cotton, not blocked.

I would love to knit a pair of socks, but I am so scared of DPN's (haha like that new word usage yet again  Wink). Hopefully soon I will muster up the courage to try something outside of my comfort zone. Until then, I will stick to washcloths.

Oooh, once you learn, you'll lurve to knit socks!  They look complicated but they're not really.  If you have the opportunity, take a sock-knitting class.   That's what my Mum & I did.  I couldn't learn by reading it in a book.

I concur, giz.  I came up with this quote today...

"Socks are the potato chips of the knitting world...you can't knit just one!"

RM, I totally get what you're saying...but my first thought was "Why in the world would anyone want to knit a single sock?"  Cheesy
