I was browsing my local Salvation Army for some sweaters to frog when a certain black and brown skirt caught my eye. It wasn't the prettiest thing, but it reminded be of a dress that I saw in NYC, so I bought it for $1, then spent the entire day sewing this:

This was the original skirt and the pattern:

It was pretty easy to make. All I did was cut a section off the top, gather the remaining material and sew it to a ribbon, then I sewed the top to the ribbon and inserted the zipper. the whole thing is lined.

What a gorgeous dress! Great job. I love how the ribbon stands out even though it's kind of a tone-on-tone thing. Is the fabric as soft as it looks?

Softer. the dress had to be fully lined because the cotton was so light and soft that you could see right through it. the lining is a black cotton that I found buried in by ever growing fabric stash.

Great vision for that skirt. I've been looking for inspiration for summer dresses and this is just perfect! It looks so comfy AND flattering.
