I just finished my first quilt (I'm primarily a knitter) and I may be hooked. Behold, my questionable workmanship:

And the back:

It came out roughly crib/throw sized after I put the ginormous border. The center rectangles are 5" charm squares I hacked in half and sewed into strips. I quilted it on my machine without the aid of a walking foot (not the best way to do it, I imagine) and the binding is homemade bias tape, machine sewn on.

I'm looking forward to doing another, but not until I have some space to dedicate to it (and not have to take over the kitchen table for extended periods of time). I really want to try out something Denyse Schmidt-y in the future.

I really like it. Nice colour choices, some really cool prints, and the back is great. Good work!

That's so gorgeous! You did a great job, especially for a first quilt.

This is one of my favorite quilts that I've seen this month!  I love the colors -- the back fabric is just as awesome as the front!
Where did you get the backing fabric?  Its too cute!

My sister saw the Fourth of July quilt I made for my parent's cabin, and now wants her own lap quilt, for her birthday in August.  Since I'm in the mood to sew, I'm going to make her one, and probably make something similar to this!

BTW, I agree quilting without a walking foot is do-able, but not the best idea.  I am picking up my sewing machine from the repair shop today at lunch, and I hope to get some practice with not only the fancy embroidery cams, but also with a walking foot when I machine quilt my sister's birthday present.
