Thank you for the suggestions.  I posted on here because I was hoping to get one that somebody else had experience with I am not an experienced enough crocheter to fix problems with a pattern.

Another forum I go to had lots of people making the snood I suggested. They said it went well, but I personally have never crocheted it myself.

after watching the movie pearl harbor, i really wanted a snood. i might just make one before i start on this beret (http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/cgs-beret.html) since it seems to work up quite quickly. i don't think berets are "in" anymore, but i'll attempt to bring them back. Cheesy

Also some snoods are worn for religious reasons, and cover all the hair. Like this one:
