My 4 year old, Allena, decided she absolutely had to buy some fabric she saw one day at Wal Mart.. So my mom bought it for her (do all grandparents have "sucker" stamped on their heads??).

I made this skirt :

to test and see if I could draft a pattern. It fit beautifully! My model is in bed (it's only 3 am here....) so no action shots.

This one : is the final product. That's the 9/11 picture as a stamp on that fabric. My daughter has developed a thing for the American flag recently.

And there's leftover fabric too. My husband suggested a vest for the remnant. Not a bad idea, really. Anyone know of a good 4T size pattern, priced free?  Grin

ETA: Action Shot!!

They're both the same, so I'm just doing the one.

Thanks guys! I added a picture of the skirt on my daughter. My hubby's a bit funny about having the kids online, so just the skirt.

Good work!

I can't wait until my kiddo is old enough to request fabric from nana and papa - they're total saps when it comes to her.

You did a wonderful job...be happy your little one asks for fabric (future craftster?), we had to adopt a nana buys it-it stays at nana's rule after we ended up with 2 gianormous toyboxes full and more kept coming home.  I think I'll have to convince nana to take a trip or two to the fabric store...

Thanks for the wonderful complements!

mamakay, my 4 year old does want to learn to knit and crochet Wink She doesn't have the desterity yet, though. I hope she'll learn all these skills. They are very useful, even if just to repair stuff.
