OMG!!!
I got some free fiber, well almost free.  My DD's preschool teacher introduced me to a local alpaca & sheep rancher (4 mls away). She recently called me and asked me if I would like to spin some of her fiber into yarn for her in exchange for some fiber.  Um, ya I sure would.  So we decided for each lb I spin for her I'll keep a lb for myself.  She washes & dyes the fibers & I card and spin them.  So, I went to pick them up today and there has to be at LEAST 25 lbs.  Spin whatever you like and take your time she said.  OMG!!!

Anyway, here are my tour stats so far.  I started on the natural alpaca today.  One of the turquoise romney bobbins was spun before we began.  But the other one I spun yesterday and the first plied skein off it is drying tonight.  More pics to come soon.

Amazing showing everyone!!!  Keep spinning  Cheesy

isamax what luck. It looks gorgeous!

Everyones yarns are so beautiful. The way my class schedule has been it is hard to keep up.
Thank you for the compliments on the Spunky BFL with beads. The color way is Hot Rod.

Well I finished off the brown Shetland roving and made a skein of coil yarn yesterday. I need to take a picture.

And i have a picture of yarn I made on the 9th. It is a batt from sheep feathers. It reminds me of worn out ballet shoes.

Dude looks good.  I was talking about doing singles for socks earlier and Jacki told me it was crazy talk.  I say go for it.

Travis

Ha ha, thanks I finally rested on this idea and I'm going to stick with it

I'm not sure I would recommending knitting socks with a single from a standpoint of durability, but your mileage may vary. The one thing I would recommend if you're going to do it is to put more twist into the yarn than you normally would, to up it's durability factor as much as possible. Soft, fluffy singles will likely knit into socks that wear through pretty quickly. Now, you don't want rope against your bare feets either so it'll be a delicate balance for you. Then again, if you're only going to wear the socks twice a year, then you should have no issues with durability.

Thanks TheBon, I was actually putting more twist in it since I was leaving it a single Cheesy! I am also sending this pair to grandmother's friend who is bed ridden and passing away from lung cancer, So she wont really be walking much. But thanks for the insite!

Isamax, that's a fiber fiesta!  How are you keeping yourself from just climbing into the bag and swimming in it?  Smiley

Here's what I've spun so far for the tour (I've been posting on Flickr and updating my blog with my Tour results, too!):

Day 1:

Day 2:

Day 3:

Day 4:

And I totally did *not* say it was crazy talk!  I said I had never done that before, but that the Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook talks about it a lot, so it's got to be working out for them.  Travis lies!! Tongue

You should have seen all of her fibers.  She has close to a THOUSAND lbs.  As soon as I saw it I wanted to leap right in.  Thankfully, I contained myself!  Roll Eyes

I love all the yarn. Each one is so beautiful! I have to say tho, I am totally partial to the one Lufahsman made! But only because it matches the interior of my blazer. (it's black and green biohazard stuff)

Question? The Spunky Eclectic fiber of the month, is it something you sign up for and receive monthly or do you just purchase whenever you like?
