Hi Knitters!

I am looking for a software program that I can design sweaters, hats and socks with. I have a MAC that I love, but it seems that none of the software is MAC friendly. Do you know any software I can use?

Thank you!

I'm not aware of any Mac knitting software. Unfortunately I think the people who write knitting pattern software underestimate the number of Mac owners.

If you search this section, you can find links to TrueType (universally compatible) fonts with knitting symbols useful for making charts (after you download, preview, then hit "install fonts" if desired).

It's probably easiest to use them in a spreadsheet type of program (MS Excel, OpenOffice Calculator--free software, etc.)

The following might be helpful:

Wait, are you looking for software that helps you design knitting patterns - you plug in the measurements and it spits out a pattern - or just typeset knitting patterns?

I swear I saw a shareware knitting program in the Downloads section of the Apple website, but I searched and it didn't come up.  I may have downloaded it to my other computer, so if I find it, I'll let you know.

I would think that there should be something out there for knitting Mac users, since creative people tend to use Macs.  I'll check my local Apple store.

Sometimes Mac-specific searches won't turn up as much.  Look up universally compatible programs, or take the plunge and get Virtual PC (might be slow on older macs).

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am looking for a program where I can plug in the size, gauge, style and it will split out the pattern. It sounds like this may not be possible on a mac (without decoder software).

I'm going to keep looking!
