i am speachless! This is so pretty! I wish i had a fireplace now! I've always liked the mosiac look around a fireplace but I've never seen a design like yours. The colors are perfect!

Such an unusual choice to use green for the background. I think it's really cool, and lets the flames also be read as vines. And I bet it fits into your decor better. So cooool!

That is so beautiful. I love that you can have a fire even when it's too hot outside. Amazing.

Thanks everybody!  I really appreciate everyone's kind words.

Now to answer the questions:
Truly amazing! Did you have a plan, or did you just wing it?

I'm a major planner.  I started by building the form out of wood and MDF, and I spent several days working out the design.  I started gluing down the top left swirly, and that's when I came up with the flame idea.  So I reworked the other bits to look a little more like stylized flames.

First, I really have no words to describe how I feel about your fireplace. So I will just say "WOW!" I really like how you continued the design around the to sides. Nice work! Second, what can tile did you use? The different shades within each color really adds to the depth of the flames.

I used stained glass, not tile.  It's more work, since you can't just smash it with a hammer to get the pieces, but I think that it's definately worth it.

It's a relief to have it done, but now it feels weird to be without a big project.  I think I'll give myself a few weeks big-project-free before I start another one, though.
